Signatures For Soldiers Update

February 25 2020 Update

1. Musings & Ramblings

Wow!!  $75,000!!!!  WOW!!!!!  I would have never imagined that this "little" project would see a number such as this.  As I've said before, I am completely overwhelmed and humbled by the support.  Let me try to put what this number means in perspective to the work that MMIA does: The average wheelchair ramp or small bathroom remodel costs about $3000 for supplies.  With the total amount of money raised to date, SFS has helped to fund 25 of these types of projects in just over 5 years.  That's 5 of these types of projects a year funded solely by SFS. The goal of $100.000 raised doesn't seem so far away anymore.  And it has everything to do with all of you reading this.  I've said it before, and I will say it again....Signatures For Soldiers has become this incredible community that rallies around the cause to make truly meaningful and lasting change in the lives of our military veterans.  Thank you for taking me along in this journey.  But the work isn't finished yet.  If anything, I feel as though we are just beginning.  As I've mentioned before, Signatures For Soldiers and Military Missions In Action will be the charity partner for The National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City NJ from July 29 through August 2.  I hope to see many of you there.  It will be an exciting time for SFS and MMIA as we will be partnering with HandBid to bring an online auction to everyone with literally 100% of the money going directly to MMIA.   This leaves us with literally 5 months (nearly to the day) to prepare for this.  I've been receiving some wonderful items that we will be using for the auction, as well as other items that we will have available for sale.  But I still feel as though we have a long way to go to really bring out the truly best that SFS has to offer.  If you are reading this and thinking "What can I do to help?", please feel free to reach out to me to talk more about the near limitless ways to help.  As we have demonstrated by our total amount raised, even just the smallest donation of any kind can make a difference.  Remember: Together WE are changing the lives of our veterans....and this change is truly meaningful and long lasting. Since my last update, I had two things happen that truly filled my heart with joy.  The first was from a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization, Mr. Lewis Thorpe.  You may not have heard about him, but here's some background information: He's originally from Australia, had Tommy John surgery that kept him out of baseball for a year and then was ill and unable to pitch for another near 2 years.  He made his MLB debut last season for the Twins and is projected to have a breakout season for the Twins this year.  I visited with him during a Spring Training practice in Fort Myers FL and he was so genuine with his desire to help SFS.  He asked for nothing in return and gave so much.  If you are looking for someone to root for during the 2020 season, this is the guy.  Thank you Mr. Lewis for the support. Later that day, I received the message below from a former Minor League player whose son is currently serving overseas: "Myself and my son can't thank you and Signature For Soldiers enough.  He received (care) packages today.  It seems to be at the right time. Speaking for my son I could tell he was a little down/off.  It's gonna make his next 2 months go by quick. Thanks again" This is just one example of where the money goes to help support our active duty military.  Ask any veteran who has been deployed what it meant to get mail from back home and they will tell you it is priceless.  Thank you to each of you for making this happen. Please share this information with as many people as possible.  If you have connections in the media, please share with them.  If you have friends and family who may have an interest in our efforts, please share with them.  Word of mouth is a huge part of our expansion and has really driven our growth.  So please share far and wide. Please feel free to forward this update to anyone you may know who would be interested in learning more about SFS and our efforts.  Please remind them that 100% of all of the money raised, not just proceeds, goes directly to Military Missions In Action ( to help support their work with homeless and disabled veterans. Please continue to share our link for others to sign up for regular email updates: Thank you again for your support.  Because of you, SFS is what it is today....a force in The Hobby that is promoting good deeds everywhere.
