Signatures For Soldiers continues to move forward. A great deal of my time continues to be focused on "behind the scenes" items such as sort unsigned cards, organizing signed items, and just general organization. Nothing really exciting.....especially to read about it.

However, over the past month, I have had the opportunity to meet a retired MLB player and a current MLB scout. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting both of them and spending time getting to know them both better. Both of these gentlemen have been very big supporters of Signatures For Soldiers. I've come to realize that my hobby collection has become "collecting" relationships. The interactions with both of these gentlemen, and many others before them, has been so genuine.

I've stated this before, but I find it worthwhile to say again....I've been blessed to meet many former and current players who are at the pinnacle of their profession. And yet, when I find out that they are even better people, it truly fills my heart with hope and joy. You see, our world can be very dark and lonely at times, especially during our current state of affairs when we are divided and isolated. However, it is interactions like this and with many in the hobby of sports collecting that I find solace and peace to some degree.

I guess I'm being a bit nostalgic about all of this due to the fact that SFS continues to close in on a milestone that I couldn't have ever imagined. There has been a lot of fun with this effort. There has also been a lot of work, sleeplessness, stress, anxiety, frustration....times I thought about stopping the effort altogether. But then I've had moments, messages, discussions that have reminded me about how this effort has impacted others. I'm extremely grateful for all of the support and all of the relationships that I've developed because of Signatures For Soldiers.

Another new feature that you may have noticed over the past month has been the "Get To Know" feature where I've done mini-interviews with players who have been supporting SFS. These have been a lot of fun for me as I always love to get to know these players just a little bit more. I hope that you've enjoyed them as well. If you have ideas on how to improve this a bit more, please pass along your thoughts to me. And if you have questions you'd like me to ask please let me know.

Finally, I want to talk a little bit about this year's National Sports Collectors Convention (aka The National) in Chicago. The National is set take place from July 28 through August 1 at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. As I type this, the plan is for this to continue as scheduled. The Governor of Illinois has stated that he plans to have the state be fully open by mid-June, and the Stephens Center plans to resume conventions in the beginning of July.

This is good news since SFS has been invited to attend and set up a booth again this year. I wrote about this in last month's update. One of our followers on Twitter asked the question "What do you need for The National?"

Besides the obvious of needing financial support to help pay for transportation to and from Chicago, the hotel, and other ancillary expenses, I will be purchasing a few items for display purposes and for storage of items. These things will be items such as mannequin busts to displays t-shirts and storage bins to pack items in. The other expense will be the upfront costs of buying Signatures For Soldiers t-shirts. These shirts are always very popular.

I'm hoping to be able to put together bags of packs of cards as well as other hobby supplies that I can give out to kids at The National. If you have anything you'd like to donate for this, please let me know. Other items to donate would be signed items that I can sell at The National with 100% of the money going directly to MMIA. Once a list of autograph signers is announced, I may need some unsigned cards for these signers. More to come on that.

In the meantime, I again thank you for your support and wish you and your loved ones joy, happiness, and safety.

If you enjoy reading these updates, please feel free to forward this update to anyone you may know who would be interested in learning more about SFS and our efforts. Please remind them that 100% of all of the money raised, not just proceeds, goes directly to Military Missions In Action to help support their work with homeless and disabled veterans.
